Chapultepec

Sunday, September 12th, me, Rubi and Mona went to Chapultepec, another area of D.F. (Yes, I'm horribly behind in posts. Whoops. But if it makes you feel better, I'm up to date on my journal!)

Chapultepec is this huge park with lots of museums and stuff. And lots of little kids. We wanted to go to the castle and the museum in there and then go to the Museo Nacional de Antropología. We decided to go on a Sunday because the museums in the park are almost all free on Sunday. However, we underestimated the amount of people that would be there on a Sunday.

Our first stop on our walk to the castle was the monument of Niños Heroes.

Then we went over to the castle (which proved more challenging than it sounds).

But then we saw how obscenely long the line was and decided to go back another day.

Instead we went back to El Lago de Chapultepec and rented una lancha de pedales and went around the lake.

Then we went to el Museo Nacional de Antropología. It turns out that museum is only free on Sundays for residents of Mexico. However, after a bit of convincing at the ticket booth, we convinced the person there that our SIIJUVE IDs qualified us for a student discount (which also makes entrance free). And the funny thing is Mona still doesn't have hers (because she forgot to bring a photo to the on-arrival camp), but me and Rubi showed ours and then Mona said "same thing" (but in Spanish) and they let us by.

We spent a lot of time looking at the exhibits but there are loads of rooms there so we're going to go back sometime.

We ended up eating lunch in the restaurant at the museum. It was expensive for Mexico, but cheap for our countries. Also, the menu was in English, but I didn't realize that until we'd been looking at it for at least 5 minutes! (and things like that have happened a few other times as well)

We decided that next time we go to Chapultepec, it would be a weekday or Saturday to hopefully avoid some of the Sunday crowd.
