Vegetarian Restaurant!

As I mentioned in the previous post, me and Rubi went to the vegetarian restaurant near Zócalo (on the 18th) to celebrate her having a project.

On our way to the restaurant, we had a mini-adventure. Rubi needed money so we stopped at an ATM. As normal for Mexico, there was a decent sized line. In front of us (we thought in line) was this guy. Then he started talking to us and asking us where we were from, our names (afterwards we discussed that we both basically use our middle names for that – although Rubi uses a slight variation of hers), where we were staying, etc. Multiple times. We couldn’t get him to the stop, so we kept making up things. (Although we were truthful but slightly vague about where we were from). Then the line moved up and the guy in front of us didn’t. We were super confused. So we moved up and he followed and then asked about what the line was for. Then we were super confused. Finally it was our turn and we went in and while Rubi was getting money, I sneakily looked out the door and the guy was still there! When we got out, he started following us and asked if he could get to know us. (Did I mention this guy was in his 40s or so?) We avoided that. Then he asked us where we were going and we said we were meeting some friends at a restaurant. Then he asked if he could come with! We said no. (duh). The restaurant we were going to was less than a block up the street we were on, but in case he followed us, we walked in a circle around the next block then had to backtrack to get to the restaurant.

Now for the restaurant. It’s called Los Vegetarianos. It was amazing! The service was super-fast and friendly. And the restaurant was really cheap. For $57 (pesos) (which is about $5 – USD. It’s so confusing that it’s the same symbol), we got fruit salad (although we could have had vegetable salad), cold soup (or we could’ve had hot lentil soup), enchiladas, a chile stuffed with something that reminded me of tempeh and tapioca pudding. We plan on going back for sure.

on the left of the plate is the enchiladas. they were out of that side, so we got the chile instead
