Coyoacán

Last Saturday (Sept 11), Mona, Rubi and I went to Coyoacán to explore the parks, markets and visit some museums.

There are several metro stations near Coyoacán and of course we picked the wrong one. We got off the metro at Coyoacán, but it turns out Viveros would have been closer to what we wanted. When we left the station, we were right by a mall so we quickly checked it out so Rubi could get some money and we could use the bathroom there. But the ATM confused us (now that we know how to say "withdraw money" in Spanish, it's easier) and the bathroom was closed.

Then we looked at the map of Coyoacán in the back of my guidebook and used it to find the park Viveros de Coyoacán. Of course, that wasn't the end of our confusion. We couldn't find the entrance to the park! First we tried one side, but couldn't find it (we later found out we were about 10 meters from an entrance) so we tried another side. That side was long and didn't have an entrance. But we passed someone selling churros and they were delicious.

We eventually found an entrance to the park on the other side and entered. The park was really great. There were lots of joggers and lots of squirrels.

I swear, every time we saw a squirrel, Mona would start talking to it and trying to get it to come close to her so she could take a picture.

There were also these really adorable signs about the environment and the park that I loved.

We basically wandered around the park for a long time.

Then we went to the Museo Frida Kahlo (I'm not going to translate that because I think you can figure it out). We couldn't take pictures of the inside, but we could outside. It was really interesting and the house was gorgeous.

Next we walked over to a market and ate lunch. Me and Rubi had chiles rellenos de queso (chiles filled with cheese) and Mona had tacos dorados (crispy rolled up tacos covered in lettuce and this delicious white sauce that I'm not sure what's in it). Sadly the chiles were not spicy, but luckily the salsa was obscenely spicy.

After eating, we explored the market and I bought some flower earrings in Mexican colors (green, white and red) to wear during the Bicentenario (bicentenary) (Sept 15).

Then we went back to the park and just relaxed for a little bit. I read more of my guide book while Mona and Rubi napped (I didn't because I didn't want to lay down on the slightly muddy grass).

Then we walked back to the mall by the Coyoacán metro station and walked around a bit.

When we got back, me and Mona cleaned and rearranged our room.
Me and Ruby found clean sheets this weekend so now I have sheets on my bed too!
